Obituary of Charles Julian
"Buddy" Kelley
March 18, 2008
INMAN, SC -- Charles Julian Kelley, 83, of 339 Wittenburg Place, RoseCrest Retirement Community, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, at the RoseCrest Health Center. Born December 8, 1924, in West Palm Beach, FL, he was the son of the late Charles Christopher and Mary Cobb Kelley. He was a retired mechanical engineer, contracting in South Florida and the Bahamas. Mr. Kelley was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Tequesta, FL, and an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Palm Beach, FL, where he served in various areas as Councilman, Financial Secretary, President of the Lutheran Men, and Luther League Youth Group sponsor. Currently he was one of the oldest members of Springs of Grace Lutheran Church in Boiling Springs, and an associate member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, NC, where he especially enjoyed supporting the Music Department. He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of World War II, a member of the Organ and Music Society of Hendersonville, the Masonic Order in West Palm Beach, FL, and served as Councilman in the Town of Golfview, FL, and a term as its Mayor.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ann Wood Kelley; a daughter, Deborah A. Leins, her husband, the Rev. Dr. Curt Leins, and grandsons, Christopher and Robbie Leins and their families, all of Elkton, MD; a sister, Christine Minear of High Point, NC; and a niece and nephew, Annie Micculla and Chuck Minear. He was predeceased by a grandson, Peter Leins; and a brother, Rae Cobb Kelley.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel conducted by the Rev. Judson F. Merrell, the Rev. Dr. Boyd Cook, and the Rev. Dr. Curtis Leins. Inurnment will be at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church Columbarium in Hendersonville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Springs of Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 16100, Boiling Springs, SC 29316; or to the Chapel Fund at RoseCrest, 200 Fortress Drive, Inman, SC 29349. The family is at the home, 339 Wittenburg Way, Inman.
