February
27, 2012
God’s Peace be with you all.
1 Kings 1:43-48 43
Jonathan answered Adonijah, "No, for our lord King David
has made Solomon king; 44 the king
has sent with him the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan,
and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the
Pelethites; and they had him ride on the king's mule;
45 the priest Zadok and the prophet
Nathan have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have
gone up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an
uproar. This is the noise that you heard. 46
Solomon now sits on the royal throne. 47
Moreover the king's servants came to congratulate our
lord King David, saying, 'May God make the name of
Solomon more famous than yours, and make his throne
greater than your throne.' The king bowed in worship on
the bed 48 and went on to pray
thus, 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who today
has granted one of my offspring to sit on my throne and
permitted me to witness it.'"
I chose the text above for
our weekly devotional because of one word: congratulate.
That word only appears in the Bible 4 times, with the above
text being perhaps the best example of its use. I choose
this text based on that word because I wanted to
congratulate all of you. Yesterday was an outstanding
Sunday. It was a fantastic way to end February and to begin
Lent. Let me share a few of the details about yesterday:
-
I had 12 people
in the Sunday School class that I teach. This is the
most I have ever had.
- There
were 8 children in Children’s Sunday School, along with
4 adult teachers/helpers. This was the most we have had
in that class as well.
- We had an amazing
crowd for worship. There were 67 people present, 21
were teenagers or younger. We had about 10 of our
regular attendees that were absent yesterday for various
reasons, but had 3 families with us that are repeat
visitors and 1 family that were charter members of the
congregation.
-
Total giving
for February was over $7000. (January giving was over
$8000, and it had 5 Sundays). This is a fantastic way
to start the New Year in terms of financial
stewardship. It is the best start we have ever had.
So where do we go?
Well, the next big thing we have coming up is Homecoming on
March 18 (We will have a church clean up day on March 10).
I hope that we can continue this trend of great
attendance/giving through this next month and perhaps even
top yesterday in terms of numbers. When
I left church yesterday, there was a sense of joy simply
because of all the good things that happened.
Let’s keep it up!
In our prayers
this week: Ann, Daniel, Scott S., Mike C., Brent S.,
Barbara (Pat’s sister), Charles, and Christine (Andrea’s
friend)
God’s
Peace,
Pastor Judson
