God’s Peace be with you all.
1
Kings 4:29-34
29 And God gave Solomon
wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and largeness
of mind like the sand on the seashore,
30 so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed
the wisdom of all the people of the east, and all the
wisdom of Egypt. 31 For
he was wiser than all other men, wiser than Ethan the
Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of
Mahol; and his fame was in all the nations round about.
32 He also uttered three thousand
proverbs; and his songs were a thousand and five.
33 He spoke of trees, from the cedar
that is in Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the
wall; he spoke also of beasts, and of birds, and of
reptiles, and of fish. 34
And men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of
Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth, who had
heard of his wisdom.
Last
year the SC Synod voted to become a synod that was dedicated
to the Bible. This initiative is called
the “Book
of Faith” initiative, and while at Synod convention last
week, we heard several stories about how it has played out
in various churches around our synod.
The Book of Faith initiative is one reason why I feel it is
so important for us to continually jump into the texts for
dialogue and education. Reading the
Bible is an ongoing conversation that is constantly
changing, and it is good for the church to engage in this
habit.
So to
help us all out, and to copy one of the presentations at
this year’s convention, I have listed below a number of
familiar sentences and quotes. It is up
to you to guess whether or not they are in the Bible.
I will email out answers on Wednesday, so it gives
you a couple of days to think about it.
I can’t wait to see your responses!
Enjoy.
