Weekly Devotional

March 10, 2008

God’s peace to you all.

Romans 5:8-11 8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. 9 Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Verse 10 of the above scripture are included in the book “The Believer’s Daily Devotional” that Abraham Lincoln carried in his pocket. This verse is what today’s devotional is all about. It is all about reconciliation, and how we are reconciled to God. Verse 10 in the book is followed by these words:

Let us love, and sing, and wonder; Let us praise the Savior’s name: He had hush’d the laws loud thunder, He has quinch’d Mt. Sinai’s flame: He has wash’d us with his blood, He has brought us night to God.

As we approach the end of Lent (less than two weeks to go!), we begin to be reminded of why Christ has died on the cross. Jesus did not just die on the cross for his own good or because he wanted to, but instead because he loved us. God loved us, and still does. As Paul says, we are reconciled to God by the death of Jesus on the cross. As believer’s, that is something to truly boast about.

The work of God in the world is something that none of us will every truly understand. But that doesn’t mean that we cannot believe. Our Gospel lesson yesterday hinted on our belief. Mary and Martha had their belief challenged when their brother Lazarus died. However, their faith in God showed that when we believe, miracles truly do happen.  As we continue through Lent on our Easter journey, we are reminded that we too believe in the things we cannot understand. We believe that Christ was crucified on a cross for us, and that by that, we are reconciled to God.

In our prayers this week: Buddy and Ann, Alma, Linwood and Gail, Chris, Michael, and Brenten.

God's Peace,

 Pastor Judson
